Steven Cruz to Lead New National Garifuna Council San Pedro Branch
A new executive board headed by Steven Cruz was elected on Sunday, September 28th, to lead the National Garifuna Council (NGC) San Pedro Branch. The election, held in San Pedro Town and presided over by NGC President Alex Nolberto, resulted in the selection of Cruz as president, Alex Noralez as vice president, Eden Velásquez as secretary, Florett Flowers as assistant secretary, Julie Zúñiga as treasurer, Gene Lopez as assistant treasurer, Joseph Elijio as delegate, and Elroy Castillo as alternate delegate.

Reports of sexual assault on the rise in San Pedro Town
Over the past months, reports about sexual offenses seemed to have slightly increased in San Pedro Town. Three recent events have raised many eyebrows on the island due to their nature. These unpleasant incidents involve incest, the rape of a minor, and a former teacher who was charged with three counts of sexual assault.

SPHS remembers the late Maestro Angel Nuñez
On Friday, January 13th, the San Pedro High School (SPHS) held a special memorial to honor the late Rafael Angel Nuñez. A past teacher and principal at the island’s high school, Maestro Nuñez was also one of the school founders, who, along with other island pioneers, helped to bring secondary education to the island in 1971. The beloved San Pedrano was remembered with speeches and songs.

National Garifuna Council San Pedro Branch elects new board members
The new elected board members of the local chapter of the NGC include Eden Velasquez as President, Alex Noralez as Vice President, Jhoice Ordonez as Secretary, Shaniel Soriano as Assistant Secretary, Miguel Bulnes as Treasurer, Amancia Martinez as Assistant Treasurer, and Elsy Witty and Celia Bulnes as committee members.

San Pedro Pirates F.C introduces new board of directors
The new PLB Season begins August 2018, and the San Pedro Pirates FC is looking forward to a more disciplined season, with a new board of directors. Taking over as head coach is Renan Couoh, and his assistant coaches are Hugo Pineda and Alex Noralez, while Omar Moreno is equipment manager.

San Pedro resident and teacher, Alex Noralez has been selected as the head coach of the Belize National Under- 15 Women’s Football Team.

Ambergris Caye celebrates Garifuna Settlement Day
Under the theme ‘Risiti, Pantati, Gabafuti, Funrahova, meme la (English: Rich, proud, and powerful, let us continue to preserve it) the local branch of the National Garifuna Council (NGC) San Pedro branch held several activities ranging from cultural presentations and drumming, to the re-enactment of the arrival of the Garifuna people to Belize.
