Caye Caulker BTIA opens new Tourism Information Center

The Caye Caulker Belize Tourism Industry Association (CCBTIA) inaugurated its new Tourist Information Center (TIC) in Caye Caulker Village on August 2, 2024. The event was attended by a diverse group of guests, including BTIA members, management, and representatives from the Belize Tourism Board. The main highlight was a ribbon-cutting ceremony that marked the official commencement of TIC's operations in Caye Caulker.

National Health Insurance coming to San Pedro in July

Belize's National Health Insurance Program (NHI) is set to roll out in San Pedro Town and Caye Caulker Village in July of this year. Established in 2000 through an amendment to the Social Security Act, the integral healthcare program is slowly being implemented nationwide. The announcement that the NHI will soon be available to island residents was made during the ground-breaking ceremony of the San Pedro and Caye Caulker General Hospital on Friday, March 1st.

Enormous crocodile caught in Caye Caulker; safely removed and relocated

An adult crocodile, measuring nine feet in length, was captured on Wednesday, August 31st, near a guest house in Caye Caulker Village. The wild animal was safely removed from the area with the assistance of the Fisheries Department. The crocodile was later transported to Ambergris Caye, where ACES Wildlife Rescue assisted with relocating the crocodile.

PUP inaugurates office in Caye Caulker

An official ceremony was held in Caye Caulker Village on Thursday, February 13th for the inauguration of the People’s United Party (PUP) Office.

20 Water Tanks donated to Caye Caulker

On Thursday, January 8th a short ceremony was held in Caye Caulker Village for the official handing over of 20 Rotoplas Water Tanks. The donation was made possible through the collaborative efforts of the Belize Rural South (BRS) People’s United Party (PUP) Standard Bearer, Andre Perez, and the business community.

Caye Caulker Electrical Power and Water Supply restored

Utility issues in Caye Caulker Village seem to finally be stabilizing after over a week of electrical and water shortages. The issue peaked on New Year’s Day, when for several hours, the island was without electrical power after days without running water.

Water and electricity crisis has Caye Caulker Village tourism industry and livelihoods in jeopardy

Caye Caulker Village began its New Year 2020 by struggling with shortages of water and electricity, which worsened on Monday, December 30th. With their tourism season in jeopardy due to water and electricity issues, islanders took to the streets to protest on Thursday, January 2nd, after days without a proper supply of either utilities. Both utility companies, Belize Water Services (BWS) and Belize Electricity Limited (BEL), continue to address the situation as best as they can, but power and water supply on the island is yet to be fully restored.

Caye Caulker Electrification Project to receive a $6.8 US million Loan

On Friday, October 4th, during the Sitting of the House of Representatives a $6.8 US million loan motion was presented for Caye Caulker Electrification Project. The loan, offered by the Caribbean Development Bank, is earmarked to assist Belize Electricity Limited (BEL) in reducing emissions and improve the reliability of the supply of electricity to Caye Caulker, with increased capacity to meet the projected demand.
