Hope Haven to hold free weekly Yoga classes

San Pedro residents will be delighted to know that on Thursdays, free yoga classes will be held at Hope Haven Children’s Home. The first class was held on Thursday, February 13th and was led by Shannon Reeder of Iguana Juan’s Restaurant.

Blue Water Grill donates nearly $11K to Hope Haven

Hope Haven Children’s Home was the recipient of a monetary donation from Blue Water Grill (BWG) on Wednesday, January 8th. The donation, totalling $10,989.90, was collected from July through December in 2019 via the efforts of BWG and their sister companies, Wine de Vine, Red Ginger in Belize and The Phoenix Resort, including patron contributions.

Belizean children honored at National Children’s Award Gala

To commemorate the 30th anniversary of Belize signing on to the United Nation’s Convention on the Rights of a Child (CRC), for the first time ever a National Children’s Award Gala was held at Caribbean Motors Hall in Belize City on Saturday, November 23rd.

Murlene ‘Mel’ Spain re-elected as President of San Pedro’s Lions Club

During the San Pedro Lions Club 44th anniversary celebration on Saturday, November 9th, Murlene ‘Mel’ Spain was re-elected as President. Hosted at the Lions Den on Barrier Reef Drive on San Pedro Town, the event saw a reshuffling in the club’s Board of Directors, who were officiated in front of invited guests from the island and mainland. The annual event also included refreshments for the attendees and live music with the island’s number one band, Rompe Raja!

Hope Haven receives donation; continues work in the community

Hope Haven continues to do great work on the island of San Pedro Town, and one of their focus is providing shelter for children of Ambergris Caye.

Recovering and rebuilding: Boca del Rio fire victims move on

A total of 22 persons affected were initially housed at San Pedro’s children’s home and community center Hope Haven, where everyone was fed for several days following the fire. As they move forward with their lives, a visit to the fire site at Boca del Rio showed some development on Thursday, August 16th, as new structures are slowly being erected by those who once lived there.

San Pedro Lions Club hosts Directors from Costa Rica and Panama

Visiting Lion Luis Castillo from Panama and Gerald Mory from Costa Rica along with their companions enjoyed a familiarization trip on the island that included visits to The San Pedro Town Council, the San Pedro Lions Den, Hope Haven Children’s Home, and the Dr. Otto Rodriguez San Pedro Polyclinic II.

Raise Me Up’s plans Masquerade fundraiser to benefit new children’s home

The non-profit organization Raise Me Up, will be hosting its most fabulous event of the year, a Masquerade Ball, on Saturday, March 11th.
