Special Envoy and Caye Bank’s Joel Nagel deliver hurricane relief to support repairs at local childcare center

On March 16, 2023, H.E. Rossana Briceño and Joel Nagel, Chairman of Caye International Bank Ltd., delivered a cheque for BZ$85,700 to the Dorothy Menzies Child Care Centre (DMCCC). The donation was raised through a charity auction hosted by a local business, Caye International Bank, and San Pedro-based property company ECI Development, during a Presidents' Week event in Las Vegas.

On January 19, 2023, Belize received a donation of zinc from the Embassy of the Republic of Panama that will be used in the rebuilding efforts to assist persons impacted by Hurricane Lisa.

Belize Receives Donation of Hurricane Relief Funds and Vehicles from the Republic of Korea

Ambassador Amalia Mai, CEO of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, received, on behalf of the Government of Belize, humanitarian assistance from the people and Government of the Republic of Korea. The donation of US$100,000 to the World Food Programme (WFP) was handed over by H.E. Sung-min Jang, Senior Secretary for Policy Coordination and Planning, Office of the President.

Belizean Diaspora Contribute to Hurricane Lisa Relief Efforts

This week, the Ministry of Tourism and Diaspora Relations (MTDR), in conjunction with the Ministry of Human Development, Families and Indigenous Peoples’ Affairs, facilitated the distribution of hurricane relief supplies that were received from several organizations and individuals in the diaspora with the help and coordination of Build Belize Inc. and No Child Hungry. These two organizations have generously organized the consolidation and shipment of much-needed supplies for Belize City residents who are still in need after the Hurricane Lisa.

San Pedro Lions Club delivers donations to four institutions on the mainland

Following the passage of Hurricane Lisa over Belize on November 2nd, most of the damage caused by the Category 1 storm was identified in Belize City and surrounding areas. It was reported that many people would need help to recover, and as such, many organizations in and around the country started planning fundraisers to help. The San Pedro Lions Club was one of them, collecting and delivering assistance in the days following the catastrophe. The island club then focused on helping non-profit and conservation organizations who suffered damages as well, and to whom they delivered monetary donations on Thursday, December 15th, on the mainland.

Rotary Clubs of Belize and NEMO join forces to help Hurricane Lisa victims with Mattress Drive

It has been over a month since Hurricane Lisa hit the country, affecting thousands of residents in Belize City and other surrounding areas. Some hurricane victims still need assistance with a proper house and essential items like mattresses. To bring some relief, the Rotary Clubs of Belize, in collaboration with the National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO), have teamed up to provide mattresses to those in need.

2022 Atlantic Hurricane Season draws to a close; Belize not spared

The hurricane season for this year came to a close on November 30th, making it one of the most damaging years. The season produced 14 named storms, of which eight became hurricanes, with two intensifying into major hurricanes.

Boca del Rio bridge completion now projected for early 2023

The reconstruction of the Sir Barry Bowen Bridge in the Boca del Rio area may not be completed by the end of the year as previously projected by the San Pedro Town Council. Mayor Gualberto ‘Wally’ Nuñez said on Wednesday, November 23rd, that it may take up to February 2023 before the concrete bridge is fully open to motorists.
