22 Islanders Complete Secondary Studies with SPACE

Graduation season continues on La Isla Bonita. On June 14th, 22 students received their high school diplomas from the San Pedro Adult Continuing Education (SPACE) program. The ceremony celebrated the academic achievements of the graduates who completed their secondary studies through the evening program.

Bonefish and Tarpon Trust Offers Summer Workshops to Primary School Teachers

The Bonefish and Tarpon Trust, in collaboration with Copal Tree Lodge, a Muy’Ono Resort, is inviting all primary school teachers in Belize to participate in a free, CPD-certified workshop focused on marine conservation and education. These hybrid-format sessions will begin on June 23rd and continue through July 23rd, with participants divided into cohorts based on their district. The workshops aim to enhance teachers’ understanding of flats conservation, fisheries, habitats, and local livelihoods, equipping them with tools and resources to bring these lessons into the classroom.

122 students graduate from the San Pedro High School Class of 2025

The 2025 graduating class of San Pedro High School (SPHS) had commencement exercises on Saturday, June 7th, at the Angel Nuñez Auditorium. The graduation ceremony featured presentations, inspirational speeches, and the distribution of diplomas. The ceremony began at 4PM and was presided over by Samantha Santos and Zsapphirrah Coleman as the Mistresses of Ceremonies. The anticipated celebration, attended by ecstatic parents and friends, lasted more than two hours and highlighted the accomplishments of 122 students, who were awarded numerous awards of distinction and high school diplomas.

San Pedro Roman Catholic Primary School Hosts Education Fair

On Friday, May 30th, the San Pedro Roman Catholic Primary School hosted an education expo showcasing a variety of island initiatives, local businesses, and engaging activities for students. The event featured booths from financial institutions, environmental organizations, and government agencies. Held from 9AM to midday, the fair welcomed students from various class levels, who interacted with exhibitors and participated in hands-on learning experiences.

Graduation Season 2025 Kicks Off with The Island Academy Ceremony

Graduation season 2025 is now in full swing, and schools across the island and the country are preparing to celebrate their students' academic milestones. On May 30, 2023, The Island Academy marked a special occasion with its 2025 graduation ceremony, held at its campus in Mahogany Bay Village. Students, faculty, families, and friends gathered to honor the achievements of this year’s graduating class of 13 students: Robert Gabourel, Sianna Manuel, Clarisse Polack, Dylan Guerrero, John Fuson, Alyssa Gabourel, Jad Obied, Sophia Castaneda, Eliza Card, Christopher Paz, Ava Guerrero, Hourieh Harmouche, and Zander Rodas.

Government Internship Program Targets Belizean Youth

The Government of Belize has officially endorsed the 2025 Summer Internship Program, which provides students with valuable short-term employment and hands-on experience in public service. The initiative is coordinated by the Ministry of the Public Service, Constitutional and Political Reform, and Disaster Risk Management. It is open to Belizean students aged 16 and older, from third form to junior college, as well as recent graduates within the past year. The program will run for one to three months, part-time or full-time, and includes a stipend for participants who apply before the deadline.

Communication Training for Families and Teachers held in San Pedro

On Wednesday, May 14th, a children’s communication training workshop was held at San Pedro High School. The workshop was organized through a collaborative effort between Therapy Abroad, students from the University of Houston, Texas, USA, and the San Pedro Town Council. The initiative was part of Therapy Abroad’s Communication Sciences & Disorders program, which aims to provide hands-on clinical experience in speech-language pathology while delivering essential services to underserved communities.

Hol Chan Marine Reserve Opens Marine Education Center

On Wednesday, May 14th, the Hol Chan Marine Reserve officially opened its new Marine Education Center, located on the ground floor of its headquarters in downtown San Pedro. The long-anticipated event welcomed a diverse group of attendees, including primary school students, representatives from the Belize Tourism Board, tour guides, local leaders, and specially invited guests. The highlight of the event was the ribbon-cutting ceremony, which marked the official opening of the education center to both guests and the public.
