Azaliah Ortega wins Hol Chan’s Annual Primary School Trivia Competition

The Hol Chan Marine Reserve hosted its Annual Primary School Trivia Competition on May 14th at the Lion’s Den. A highlight of the much-anticipated Reef Fest, the event aimed to foster environmental awareness and stewardship among young students. It drew enthusiastic participation from six local primary schools across Ambergris Caye and Caye Caulker.

MoEST Joins #ActOnFacts: The Food in Our Schools Matters Campaign

The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MoEST) joins the #ActOnFacts: The Food in Our Schools Matters campaign. This regional initiative, led by the Healthy Caribbean Coalition (HCC), in collaboration with UNICEF, the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) Commission, the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA), and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), aims to continue building momentum for healthier school food environments across the Caribbean.

San Pedro Institute of Culinary Education now accepting applications for second cooking program

Following the successful first edition of the San Pedro Institute of Culinary Education (SPICE) program at the Holy Cross Anglican School, which saw ten students graduate, a second class will begin on May 20, 2025. The organizers aim to host 12 students and equip them with professional culinary techniques. Classes will be held on Tuesdays from 4 PM to 8 PM for 30 weeks.

San Pedro High School Business Fair 2025: Feeding Entrepreneurial Spirit

San Pedro High School (SPHS) hosted its bi-annual Business Fair on April 10th, under the theme "Futurepreneurs: Feeding the Entrepreneurial Spirit and Potential of Young Business Leaders." The event, held at Angel Nuñez Auditorium, aimed to nurture the entrepreneurial skills of business students by showcasing their innovative business concepts to the community.

San Pedro Preschool Hosts First Entrepreneur Day Fair

San Pedro Preschool concluded Child Stimulation Month on March 28th with their inaugural "Little Entrepreneurs Day" fair, themed “Small Steps, Big Skills: Unlocking Early Potential.” This event combined skill-building with community fundraising, aiming to instill entrepreneurial values while raising money for a new swing set.

San Pedro High School Hosts Vibrant Open Day Event

On March 28, San Pedro High School (SPHS) held its highly anticipated Open Day, showcasing the creativity and academic achievements of its students. This event marked a significant milestone, as it was the first open day held at the school since 2010, fifteen years prior. With over 50 projects spanning science, mathematics, language, and physical education, the day celebrated innovation and learning while engaging the community.

Hope Haven focuses on educating children who are not attending school

A significant number of children are not enrolled in school on Ambergris Caye. This challenge is complex and involves various economic, social, and educational factors. In response, several initiatives are being implemented to ensure that more children have access to education. One such effort is Hope Haven’s upcoming free learning center, which is currently accepting applications.

Free secondary education coming to Caye Caulker

Under the Plan Belize initiative, the People’s United Party (PUP) government introduced the Belize Education Upliftment Project (EUP) to support government-owned and government-aided high schools. This program, which waives tuition and fees, has been expanding nationwide, including in San Pedro Town. The aid will continue to reach more secondary schools. The selection process for schools to be included in the EUP is based on a set of criteria, including the school's current resources and the local community's needs.
