San Pedro Roman Catholic Schools host religion competition
On Monday, May 27th, around 1PM, the San Pedro Roman Catholic School (SPRCS) organized a religion competition for students in the upper division based on the book "Christ Our Life". Teachers use this book to help students learn about Christ and their Catholic faith. Students were tested based on their grade level, with Standard Four students tested on book five, Standard Five students on book six, and Standard Six students on book seven. Winners were announced at the end of the competition. Cristy Hernandez from Standard Four took third place, Jeffrey Martinez from Standard Six took second place, and Wilson Vasquez from Standard Six won first place.

Island schools showcase diverse talents at the 2024 Festival of Arts
On Monday, May 20th, a vibrant sense of community and shared pride filled the air as students from different preschools, primary schools, and secondary schools gathered at the San Pedro edition of the Belize National Festival of Arts Annual Show. The event, which started at 9AM and ended at 12:30PM, was a testament to the rich artistic heritage of our island. Held at the Sage Brush Church in San Pedro Town, the event drew many residents eager to celebrate island students' talents.

Health and Nutrition Fair held at San Pedro High School
On Thursday, May 16th, a Health Nutrition Fair was held at the Angel Nunez Auditorium from 9AM through 1PM. Students learned and interacted in booths about healthy habits, food nutrition, and physical activities. The fair was a collaborative effort spearheaded by Robyn Daly Faber from the Ministry of Health, in partnership with the Ministry of Education and the San Pedro High School (SPHS). This joint initiative underscores a shared commitment to promoting health and nutrition among our students.

SPHS Board undecided on participating in the Belize Education Upliftment Project tuition waiver program for 2024/2025 students
The San Pedro High School (SPHS) is preparing to end the school year and is in the process of welcoming new students from the different primary schools. With that comes implementing the Belize Education Upliftment Project (EUP), an educational reform benefiting government-owned or aided secondary schools.

Participate Learning invites Belizean teachers to apply and teach in the USA
Belizean educators with a bachelor's degree in education who are interested in a unique exchange program are invited to apply for the Participate Learning Program. The program offers the opportunity to teach in primary schools in the United States of America. This opportunity is facilitated with the guidance from the organization. Miss San Pedro hosts story telling time at the San Pedro Public Library
A storytelling event was held at the San Pedro Public Library in honor of Child Stimulation Month on Wednesday, April 3rd, at 10AM. The event, which ended at noon, included book giveaways, story time, and snacks and was a great time for kids and families to come together under the theme, “Let’s inspire young minds together and create unforgettable memories through the power of stories!” The event was organized by Empow.Her and Miss San Pedro, Mariel Calderon, in collaboration with the Ambergris Caye Rotary Club.

San Pedro Catholic Church plans to relocate primary school
The San Pedro Roman Catholic Primary School (SPRCS) is the oldest school on the island, opening in the 1920s in the center of town. However, its current location is no longer suitable for the hundreds of students it serves, especially given the traffic congestion plaguing the town, with roads wrapping around the school's walls. As a solution, there are plans to relocate the school to the southern part of town in the coming years.

San Pedro Junior College now offers bachelor programs
San Pedro Junior College now offers a bachelor’s program in business administration, with majors in management finance or marketing. Starting in August 2024, this program will make higher education accessible on the island. The program is part of a partnership with the University of Belize.
