San Pedro Lady Pirates sub-champions of the National Amateur Women’s League
The island female football team, San Pedro Pirates, traveled to Belmopan on Saturday, July 9th, for the championship of the National Amateur Women’s League. It was a historic moment for the island team to make it to the finals of such a national tournament. There could only be one winner, and on this occasion, their opponent, Sagitun Girlz, closed with a final 4-2 score. Nevertheless, the San Pedro Lady Pirates made the island proud and made history with the NAWL’s sub-championship.

Island athlete Kian Trejo is making final preparations before traveling to Birmingham, England, to participate in the 2022 Commonwealth Games set for July 28th-August 8th. Trejo will be competing in the Triathlon discipline. This sport consists of swimming, cycling, and running over various distances.

The Lady Pirates advanced to the tournament’s finals for the first time after defeating defending champions Jewel Fury with an aggregate score of 3-2.

Belize national football team suffers second consecutive defeat in the CONCACAF Nations League
In the senior national football selection of Belize, the Jaguars fell short against Guatemala on Sunday, June 5th, during their second game in the Confederation of North, Central America, and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) Nations League. Despite Belize’s defense and challenging weather conditions, the Guatemalan team secured a 2-0 victory over the Jaguars at the Doroteo Guamuch Flores Stadium in Guatemala City, Guatemala.

The island’s female team under San Pedro Pirates is in fourth place in the National Amateur Women’s League Championship (NAWL) after overcoming team Rumberas 3-1. The match took place on Saturday, June 4th, at the Ambergris Stadium, where the island girls showed determination as they continued climbing the ladder in the standings and qualified for the competition's semi-finals.
