Sharks Cup wraps up third-place matches ahead of finals
The Sharks Cup indoor volleyball tournament reached a decisive Stage in Week 10 on Sunday, December 7th, with semifinal clashes and third-place matches at the Angel Nuñez Auditorium. Six high-energy games ran from 3PM through 8PM as youth, senior, and co-ed teams battled for a coveted place in the championship finals scheduled for next weekend.

SPHS Female Volleyball Team Wins Regional Tournament
On October 25th, the San Pedro High School (SPHS) female volleyball team clinched the regional championship at the Orange Walk Sports Complex. The knockout-style tournament featured four female and four male teams from across the northern region, each competing in high-intensity, best-of-five matches for a chance to advance to the next round. SPHS secured the title after defeating Orange Walk Technical High School (OWTH) in their opening game and later triumphing over Corozal Community College (CCC) in the finals.

San Pedro Holds 2-on-2 Volleyball Tournament Before Nationals
On Saturday, June 9th, the San Pedro Volleyball Association held a mini 2-on-2 volleyball tournament at Boca del Rio. Eight teams participated in the event to help them refine their skills in preparation for the upcoming Landshark 2025 National Volleyball Championship. This tournament was an important warm-up for the six pairs chosen to represent San Pedro in the national competition's male and female divisions.

Island Heat Tournament Celebrates Women in Sports
On June 20th, the San Pedro Volleyball Association teamed up with San Pedro’s own Miss World Belize 2025, Faith Edgar, to host “Island Heat,” a two-on-two women’s beach volleyball tournament. The high-energy event occurred on the beach in the Boca Del Rio area, where registered teams competed fiercely for the first-place prize of gold medals and $1,000.

Beach Volleyball Marathon celebrates Dads in San Pedro
As part of the Father’s Day celebrations on Sunday, June 15th, the San Pedro Volleyball Association hosted a beach volleyball marathon at the Boca del Rio Beach Park. The one-day tournament featured seven male two-person teams competing for the top three prizes in a spirited and competitive atmosphere. Matches began shortly after 8AM and continued throughout the day with scheduled breaks, culminating in an intense championship showdown around 3PM.

On May 18th, the Angel Nuñez Auditorium served as the venue for the much-anticipated volleyball finals and award ceremony, marking the conclusion of the 2025 Indoor Volleyball Tournament. The finals featured high-energy matchups in the senior men’s and women’s divisions, and a trophy ceremony for all divisions.

MoEST Education Officer Dies in Road Traffic Accident in San Pedro
A 41-year-old teacher identified as Brian Keith Castillo passed away just before dawn on Monday, May 19th, in San Pedro Town, Ambergris Caye. According to reports, Castillo was involved in a golf cart incident in the San Pedrito Area. He was visiting the island and had been involved in a volleyball tournament held the day before, on Sunday, May 18th.
