Island league rolls into its seventh week of games

The Island Football League (IFL) is in its seventh week of season, with twelve teams competing for the championship. With only four more weeks left in the tournament, the race for the coveted Championship title is intensifying.

The San Pedro Tiger Sharks, the island’s premier basketball team, have secured the #2 seed in the 2024 Belize Elite Basketball League (BEBL) playoffs. Two teams will advance to the finals after a best-out-of-three series in this tournament stage. The first match between the Tiger Sharks and the Belize City Defenders will occur on Sunday, May 19th, at the Belize City Civic Center at 4PM. Legends Over 35 Cup continues at Ambergris Stadium

The Legends Over 35 Cup has entered its third week, with Team Tropical Strikers leading the standings. The recent round of games took place on Sunday, May 12th, at the Ambergris Stadium, with two scheduled matches.

Jesus ‘Levi’ Contreras brings home gold and silver from the Belize Athletics Association National Championship

Island runner Jesus ‘Levi’ Contreras, known as the ‘Yellow Flash of Belize,’ once again brought pride to the island after his stellar performance in the Belize Athletics Association championship in Belize City. The event was held on May 4th and 5th at the Marion Jones Stadium. Contreras returned to the island with a gold and silver medal, a testament to his athletic prowess.

LandShark Volleyball Marathon sees the best of San Pedro and Caye Caulker

On Sunday, May 5th, eight teams participated in the first annual LandShark Beach Volleyball tournament at the Boca del Rio Beach Park in San Pedro Town. The teams were from Caye Caulker and San Pedro. At the end of the all-day competition, the first-place prize stayed in San Pedro after the duo Badyr Sajia and Roger Chi won the contest. They also took home a cash prize of $600.

SPHS wins 3 Golds at National Secondary Schools Sports Association championships

The San Pedro High School Region athletes won 3 Gold medals, 3 Silvers, and 5 Bronze, among 31 medals won by the Northern region at the National Secondary Schools Sports Association (NSSSA) athletics championships hosted by the Anglican Cathedral College at the Marion Jones Stadium in Belize City on Friday afternoon and Saturday, April 26-27th.

San Pedro Town Council starts Legends over 35 Cup

On April 28th, the San Pedro Town Council Sports kicked off a football tournament for men who are thirty-five years and older under the theme “Legends over 35 Cup,” held at the Ambergris stadium at 6:30 PM. Food and drinks were available, and a five-dollar entrance fee per person was charged.

Mayor’s Co-Ed Softball Cup continues with fun games on Sundays

The second round of the Mayor’s Co-Ed Softball Cup occurred on Sunday, April 28th at 10AM at the Honourable Louis “Cuz” Sylvestre Sporting Arena. The tournament aims to promote softball and prepare athletes to compete on and off the island. Councilor Adaly Ayuso and her San Pedro Town Council Sports Committee team lead the competition.

San Pedro High School athletes win 15 Golds at northern regionals

San Pedro High School athletes won 15 Golds and 11 Silver Medals at the Northern Secondary Schools Sports Association athletics regional championships hosted by Muffles College in Orange Walk Town on Saturday, April 20th. The athletes will represent the Northern zone at the upcoming National Secondary Schools Sports Association (NSSSA) championships hosted by Anglican Cathedral College at the Marion Jones Stadium on Friday and Saturday, April 26-27th.

San Pedro enjoys a thrilling night of MMA action at 501 Fight Night 5

On Saturday, April 20th, a Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) Cage Grappling Match was held at the Angel Nuñez Auditorium, doors opened at 7PM with spectators filling the auditorium. The event elated MMA fans, with several fights culminating in a match in which Jevon Rubio emerged victorious.
