The Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) churches in San Pedro hosted a Community Health Fair on Saturday, March 21st, at Central Park, bringing together residents for a morning focused on health, wellness, and community outreach. The event, held from 9AM to 1PM, was organized by three local congregations, Central Adventist Church, New Horizon, and God is Truth, in observance of Global Youth Day 2026 under the theme “Communion in Action.”
The fair featured a variety of free services and activities, including medical checkups provided by San Pedro Urgent Care Clinic, clothing giveaways, lifestyle coaching, healthy vegetarian food preparation and tastings, massages, prayer stations, and information booths. Attendees were also introduced to Adventist youth programs such as Pathfinders and Adventurers, which focus on personal development and faith-based activities for young people.
The initiative also marked the start of a week-long youth prayer series hosted across the three churches, emphasizing service to the community as an expression of faith. Pastor Jeremy Canul, who oversees the island’s SDA churches, explained that the event was a collaborative effort among church leaders and volunteers, supported by global participation through similar outreach activities held worldwide on Global Youth Day.
Volunteers, including medical professionals like Dr. Lucio Núñez, contributed their time by offering free blood pressure checks, general wellness advice, and assistance with National Health Insurance (NHI) registration. Organizers highlighted the importance of holistic health, addressing spiritual, physical, and nutritional well-being. Church members also prepared and distributed free vegan-style dishes while demonstrating how to prepare healthy meals at home.
Additional booths featured Adventist literature, including informational material on the church’s beliefs and publications such as The Great Controversy by Ellen G. White, all available free of charge. Children were engaged in art activities such as drawing and painting, while live praise and worship music provided entertainment throughout the event.
According to Pastor Canul, the goal was to create a meaningful impact within the community through collective service. The event also promoted upcoming activities, including nightly prayer sessions at participating churches from Sunday through Saturday, from 7PM to 8PM. The week of activities will conclude with a bonfire south of Mahogany Bay on Friday and an all-day youth congress at New Horizon on Saturday, scheduled from 9AM to 5PM.
Organizers expressed hope that the initiative will strengthen community ties and encourage greater participation in youth and faith-based programs, while continuing to promote healthy living across San Pedro.
