San Pedro Recognizes Industry Leaders at 2025 Tourism Awards Gala

San Pedro’s tourism community gathered in style for the fourth annual Tourism Awards Gala at the Holiday Hotel on November 15th, with guests arriving at 7PM and the ceremony officially commencing at 8PM. Hosted by Gerry Badillo and Miley Chi, Miss San Pedro 2025, the event celebrated the dedication and achievements of local industry leaders, bringing together stakeholders, nominees, and supporters for an evening of recognition and appreciation.

SACNW leads volunteer beach cleanup on South Ambergris Caye

On Saturday, October 8th, the South Ambergris Caye Neighborhood Watch (SACNW) organized a successful cleanup along a three-mile stretch of beach and roadway in southern San Pedro. Around 25 volunteers, including local high school students and teams from Playa De Sala Boutique Hotel and the San Pedro Town Council, joined forces to collect litter from one of the island’s most scenic coastal areas.

San Pedro Launches Living Shorelines Project to Protect Its Beaches

On Tuesday, November 11, 2025, island residents, community members, and environmental supporters gathered at El Fogón for an information session about Living Shorelines, a new initiative focused on protecting San Pedro’s coast using natural methods. The event featured presentations by Lindsey Precht, Deputy Resilience Officer from Miami Beach; Gerardo Castañeda, Environmental Coordinator at Moon Palace Cancún; and Valentine Rosado, Project Lead for San Pedro’s Living Shorelines Program. The session introduced how nature-based solutions, like restoring dunes, mangroves, and coastal vegetation, can help strengthen the island’s beaches, protect homes and businesses, and preserve the environment for future generations.

SPTC and Ramon’s lead after first leg of Inter-Office semi-finals

The leading teams after the first round of semi-finals in the Inter-Office Football Tournament are the San Pedro Town Council (SPTC) and defending champions, Team Ramon’s. Both teams secured solid victories on November 9th at the Ambergris Stadium.

Stricter Golf Cart Permit Process Takes Effect in San Pedro

The San Pedro Town Council has tightened regulations for golf cart permit applications, effective immediately, in response to growing parking concerns across the island. The Ambergris Caye Traffic Control Committee (ACTCC), responsible for issuing these permits, is now enforcing stricter criteria, including residency and property ownership requirements for applicants.

San Pedro’s Shoreline Under Pressure from Development and Climate Change

Coastal erosion continues to pose a growing threat to San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, as gradual land loss affects fragile ecosystems, private properties, and public infrastructure. Over the past decade, monitoring efforts have documented slow but consistent changes along the island’s nearly 20-mile shoreline, with some areas showing more pronounced erosion than others. The data comes from the Sustainable Strategic Plan for Ambergris Caye report, which used satellite imagery and field studies to track sediment movement and coastal shifts.

Downtown truck access limited to authorized vehicles only

At the end of April this year, the San Pedro Town Council (SPTC) announced new restrictions on large trucks, including dump trucks, sand trucks, and container vehicles, entering the downtown area. The directive initially reduced the presence of heavy trucks in the town core; however, residents recently voiced concerns after seeing trucks transporting fill material through central San Pedro. According to the SPTC, the restrictions remain in place, and the trucks observed have been authorized to deliver material for municipal street upgrades in surrounding subdivisions.

Perez Clarifies Dredging Work Underway for Boca del Rio Beach Enhancement

A beach enhancement project underway at the Boca del Rio Beach Park has recently drawn attention and concern from residents and stakeholders in San Pedro Town due to dredging activities. The project aims to restore and protect a section of the shoreline that has eroded over the years. It is a joint initiative between the Area Representative, Honourable Andre Perez, and the San Pedro Town Council. On Wednesday, November 5th, Perez addressed the public’s concerns and provided details about the beach nourishment project.
