San Pedro Carnaval brings Color, Music, and Community Spirit

Carnaval de San Pedro, themed “Colores y Tradición,” unfolded over three days from Sunday, February 15th, to Tuesday, February 17th, organized by the San Pedro Town Council. Events were held at Central Park, featuring powder paint and foam parties hosted by DJ Dev, DJ Debbie, and Evolution Sound, along with live performances by the Bussa B Band. Comparsa dance groups paraded through downtown streets, drawing families, children, students, and visitors in a celebration of local culture.

Valentine’s Day Cleanup Highlights Ongoing Littering Concerns on Ambergris Caye

On Valentine’s Day, February 14th, the Ambergris North Alliance organized a community cleanup along San Pedro’s North Road. Roughly 45 to 50 volunteers gathered at four starting points: the Sir Barry Bowen Bridge, Grand Caribe, X’tan Ha, and Matachica, covering the stretch from the bridge to approximately nine miles north.

Continuous Illegal Dumping and Encroachments Prompt Stricter Enforcement Measures

The San Pedro Town Council (SPTC) has issued cleanup orders to several businesses, giving them a time limit to remove garbage and debris from their properties or face fines starting at $1,000. The action is part of an island-wide effort to address ongoing sanitation concerns and remove encroachments, including illegal dumps, abandoned vehicles, construction materials, and signage, from public spaces and roadways.

Trade License Fee Increases Cause Concern in Belmopan; San Pedro Trade License Fee Unaffected

As of February 10th, businesses in Belmopan have faced sharp increases in trade license fees, with some reportedly rising from $2,500 to $18,000—a 700% increase—prompting concern among business owners and allegedly prompting some closures. The development stems from a citywide review by the Belmopan Trade License Board and has affected multiple establishments, despite a national deferral of the new Trade License Act.

Palm Casino Cleared to Reopen After Court Overturns Shutdown

On February 11th, The Palm Casino in San Pedro received court approval to reopen after a government-ordered closure was ruled unlawful, marking a swift legal victory for the establishment. The closure stemmed from a government enforcement action on January 29th, which the casino owners challenged as procedurally flawed and unjustified.

Another colorful Art in the Park hosted at Central Park

As 2026 rolled into its second month, the first Art in the Park event of the year was held at Central Park in downtown San Pedro on February 6th and 7th. The event brought together local artisans and artists who displayed their work to the public and potential customers.

BTB Opens New Artisan Market in San Pedro with Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony

The Belize Tourism Board (BTB) officially opened the new Artisan Market in San Pedro Town on Thursday, February 5, 2026, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony held at 11AM on Nurse Shark Street. The event featured a short program led by master of ceremonies Rene Guzman, San Pedro Town Council Administrator.

Paving and Road Safety Works Continue in San Pedro

Ongoing road work is underway across San Pedro as the Town Council continues efforts to improve road conditions and safety. The work includes paving, additional road signage, and painting speed bumps, with Marina Road nearing completion and southern road paving set to begin near the Mahogany Bay entrance.
