As the low tourism season continues, many stakeholders in Belize, particularly on Ambergris Caye, are optimistic about the upcoming high season following the announcement of new and expanded international flights from the United States and Canada. These additional routes are expected to boost visitor arrivals and strengthen the country’s tourism industry. One of the most anticipated additions is Spirit Airlines’ new non-stop service from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, set to begin next month.

BTB and law enforcement partner to boost tourism security

On Wednesday, October 8th, the Belize Tourism Board (BTB) hosted the Tourism Security Law Enforcement Summit in Belize City. The event, which brought together members of Belize's security forces, was held under the theme “Securing Belize: Law Enforcement Integration under the National Tourism Security Strategy 2025–2030.” Representing San Pedro Town, Ambergris Caye, was Superintendent Egbert Castillo, Officer in Charge of the San Pedro Police Station.

This announcement follows an initial mention by the Minister of Tourism, the Honorable Anthony Mahler. The low-cost U.S. carrier will operate flights on Mondays, Fridays, and Saturdays.

BTB Reports 7.3% Decline in Overnight Visitors in the Last Two Months

Belize’s tourism sector has experienced a notable downturn in overnight arrivals during April and May. According to the latest statistics released by the Belize Tourism Board (BTB) on their “Tourism Performance Dashboard,” the figures show a concerning trend. The most striking data point comes from May 2025, which recorded 41,074 overnight visitor arrivals, a 7.3% decrease compared to May 2024, when arrivals stood at 44,313.
